Recognition of Chinese pharmacy degrees abroad

Recognition of a Chinese pharmacy degree is one of the main challenges for graduates who want to work abroad. The level of recognition depends on the country, and every country’s pharmacy regulator makes the final decision.

In many countries you will need to have your degree verified, and sit a qualifying or licensing exam, or complete a period of supervised practice, before you can work as a pharmacist. Requirements differ widely, so check the regulator’s rules before you start the degree.

To make sure your degree will be recognised, consider our medicine and pharmacy degree recognition in China service, which reviews your situation for your country. This step is essential for employment or professional practice in your home country.

Job opportunities after studying pharmacy in China in 2026

Graduates of pharmacy programmes in China have broad career options, both in China and abroad, thanks to the quality of training and university links with pharmaceutical companies.

  • Working in China: China is one of the largest pharmaceutical markets in the world, with a range of global and domestic pharmaceutical companies. Graduates can work in pharmaceutical research centres, drug factories or retail pharmacies.
  • Working in other countries: after passing the required licensing steps, graduates can register with the pharmacy regulator of the country they choose and work in pharmacies or hospitals.
  • Continuing to postgraduate study: you can apply for master’s or doctoral programmes in China, Europe or America, especially in subjects such as molecular pharmacy, biopharmaceutics or drug management.

The experience gained during your studies, especially practical training in factories or pharmacy centres, is a significant advantage in the job market.

Work, visa and CSC timing for pharmacy students

Regular employment is forbidden for international students in China. Only university-organised work-study is allowed, up to 8 hours a week and 40 hours a month in term time, and 16 hours a week and 80 hours a month in holidays, with the university’s approval noted on your residence permit (source: Ministry of Education, 2022).

For a stay of more than 180 days you need an X1 visa and the JW201 or JW202 form from your university. After arrival, register with the police within 24 hours and apply for a residence permit within 30 days. Documents issued abroad now need an apostille, which has been in force for China since 7 November 2023.

For the 2027/28 cycle, the CSC portal usually opens around November 2026, deadlines are mostly January to April 2027 and results usually arrive between April and July 2027. See the CSC official site.
